Disaster on the needles

If you've been reading my blog long enough, you may remember a sweater I was making for my cousin's baby. Well, if you were wondering what ever happened to that, the baby was born in August and the sweater is still on my needles:

I have always had trouble with baby gifts...with this one, the issue is the armpits:

As you can see, there are rather gigantic holes in the armpits. The more I knitted and thought about those armpit holes, I just lost steam. I couldn't give the sweater away anymore, it had armpit holes for goodness sake! So I gave up on this one and hid it in a corner of my craft room. But I decided to pull it out this afternoon. I think I will try and finish it, just for good measure. In the meantime though, I started another sweater for our babe last week:

This one will take a while (for me anyway, I knit in slow motion) and the pattern is really boring...miles and miles of stockinette stitch, but it is easy and has a much smaller chance of armpit holes! It should turn out as a boat neck sweater and the pattern is from the book Baby Knits for Beginners. My goal is simply to post a finished picture (of both sweaters) on this blog sometime in the future, modeled on my own child perhaps?? I am hoping that I have a better track record for baby gifts when it is for my own child!

Those armpit holes are not a big deal, at all. Bring it around sometime and I'd be happy to help you whip that baby sweater into shape!

I'd be glad to help you learn how to work with those armpit holes. I've learned to just pick up an extra st or two and twist them together. We should get together and knit sometime!
