The Craft Book Challenge Returns!

This past summer I gave myself a craft book challenge. The challenge was to make something from each and every one of the craft books I own. I did this because I have an impulsive craft book buying problem so I own a lot of books...but sometimes the books end up hanging around on my book shelves a little too long and not much gets made.

I originally gave myself an end of 2008 deadline, but I've decided to scrap the deadline all together and just try my best to finish eventually and focus on making things regardless of any deadline. I haven't revisited this challenge since the end of August, so yesterday I thought it was high time to pull a book off the shelf again. I decided on Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson, also of the fabric and yarn shop Purl in NYC. I have flipped through this book many, many times. One of the things I love about it is that the projects are divided up by time, i.e. 1-2 hour gifts, 2-4 hour gifts etc. This is perfect if you are a part-time crafter like me and just want something quick and satisfying for a Saturday afternoon.

I decided on the pin cushion above (from the 2-4 hour section) and I just love it...plus it was made entirely of pieces from my scrap bin. It was easy, but different from anything else I've made...which leads me to my next thought, a part time crafter tip. But you'll have to wait...for...it. I'm bringing them back, but not til tomorrow. Stay tuned!

I've been so tempted to make one of those adorable pin cushions, but been afraid the piecing would make me cry! I think I might give it a try now :)

Dianna --the piecing on this was very easy actually! I had always avoided this project for the same reason. Give it a try...and post pics on your blog of course!
